Datenschutzerklärung für die App „PegelSkipper – Pegel, Gezeiten & Mond“ · Stand: 02.10.2026

5. Kartenbilder (OpenFreeMap)
8. Wall of Fame
11. Übermittlung in Drittländer

Privacy policy for the app “PegelSkipper – Water levels, Tides & Moon” · Last updated: 2 October 2026
1. The essentials in brief
PegelSkipper needs no account and uses no ad networks and no analytics, tracking or error-reporting services. Your location stays on your device. The app calculates the sun, the moon, sky events and predicted tides itself. From the internet it loads water levels, official tides, map images and a few lists from us; in doing so your IP address is technically visible to the respective server. You only send data to us deliberately when you send feedback yourself.
2. Controller
Titus Hildebrand, Webdesign und App-Entwicklung
Am Mühlbach 13
93051 Regensburg
Germany
Email: post@titus-hildebrand.de
Questions about the app can also go to service@skipperfriends.de. We are not required to appoint a data protection officer.
2b. Distribution via the store account of Andrea Ammelung-Hildebrand
In the App Store and on Google Play the app appears under the name of Andrea Ammelung-Hildebrand (Skipperfriends), Bernbeckweg 12, 84036 Landshut, Germany, email service@skipperfriends.de. She publishes the app there under licence, free of charge and without any income. From Apple or Google she receives only aggregated store statistics (for example number of downloads, ratings) and – only if you have allowed this on your phone – crash reports without names or contact details. She is the controller for this store data; for the handling in the store itself (download, account, ratings) Apple or Google are independently responsible, and their privacy policies apply. Titus Hildebrand is the controller for all other processing described in this policy (section 2).
3. Location
If you allow it, the app requests your location – only while you are using it and only approximately (Android: “approximate location”; on the iPhone you can additionally switch off “Precise Location”). The app rounds it to about one kilometre and uses it on your device to find the nearest water-level or tide station, the name of the nearest place (from a built-in list of places, GeoNames) and the sun and moon times.
Your location is neither stored nor transmitted to us or to third parties. Only file names such as “water levels Germany” go to our server, never coordinates. Legal basis: access to your location is strictly necessary for the function you requested (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG) and only takes place with your permission in the operating system; processing on the device serves to provide the app (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). You can withdraw the permission at any time in your device settings and choose an area or a station manually instead; the app stores this choice only on your device.
4. What the app loads from the internet
- Water levels, official tides (BSH, Rijkswaterstaat, DMI) and the list of sources from our server clubhafen.com. It collects the values from the authorities; the app loads files per country or region, never for your location.
- From our web space huggie.de: the messages behind the bell, the Wall of Fame, the “Our apps” list including app icons, and the notices about our own apps (section 6).
- Map images from OpenFreeMap (section 5).
With every request, your device’s IP address is technically visible to the server; without it, the server cannot respond. We set no cookies, assign no identifier and build no user profiles. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in delivering the content you requested (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).
Log files: Like every web server, the servers of our hosting providers record access data (IP address, date and time, requested file, amount of data, identifier of the requesting program). They serve solely for secure operation and defence against attacks; we do not analyse them or combine them with other data. The hosting providers delete them automatically as soon as they are no longer needed for this. Our hosting providers are Neue Medien Münnich GmbH (ALL-INKL.COM), Germany, for clubhafen.com and our email mailbox, and STRATO GmbH, Germany, for huggie.de. Both act on our behalf (Art. 28 GDPR); the data remains in Germany.
5. Map images (OpenFreeMap)
The map loads its images, fonts and symbols from the OpenFreeMap service (Hyperknot Software Kft., Hungary); the map data comes from OpenStreetMap. In the process OpenFreeMap learns your IP address and which map section is currently displayed – if the map shows the surroundings of your location, it therefore also learns roughly that area. Your coordinates themselves are not sent. According to its own statement, OpenFreeMap normally does not store IP addresses (openfreemap.org/privacy). The images are delivered via the network of Cloudflare, Inc. (USA); see section 11. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (displaying the map you opened). OpenFreeMap and Cloudflare are themselves responsible for their processing.
6. Notices about our own apps
In some places the app shows notices about other Skipperfriends apps (for example BinnenSkipper or Port King). This is advertising for our own apps. The notices come as a small file from huggie.de; everyone sees the same notices. No ad networks are used, no identifier is assigned, and neither views nor clicks are counted; technically only the IP address is transmitted (section 4). Which notices you have dismissed is remembered by the app only on your device, and it does not show them again. Tapping the button opens the App Store or Google Play. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in pointing out our own apps (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, Recital 47).
7. Feedback
When you write to us via the feedback form, your text, the chosen category, an optional star rating, the operating system (iOS/Android), the app version and the app language go to our web space at huggie.de and from there by email to our mailbox. Your text is not stored on the web space itself; a log records only the day, the category and whether sending succeeded. To protect against mass submissions, the server keeps an unrecognisable (hashed) form of your IP address for at most one hour.
Optionally you can enter an email address so that we can reply to you; it is used only for that and never published. You decide yourself what information your message contains. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in handling your request and improving the app (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). We delete feedback emails as soon as your request has been dealt with, at the latest twelve months afterwards.
8. Wall of Fame
In the feedback form you can voluntarily tick that we may name you in the “Wall of Fame” if your suggestion is implemented. Only then is the display name you chose transmitted (a first name or a made-up name is enough). If your suggestion is implemented, we publish this name with a short note on your contribution in the app and in the file wall-of-fame.json on huggie.de; it can be accessed by anyone on the internet. Your email address is never published. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time without giving reasons, with effect for the future; a short message to service@skipperfriends.de is enough, and we will then remove the entry promptly. The lawfulness of the publication up to the withdrawal remains unaffected. You suffer no disadvantage without consent. If you are younger than 16, you need your parents’ permission for this (Art. 8 GDPR).
9. Reminders, calendar, rating, sharing
- “Notify me”: your device schedules the notification itself as a local notification. There is no push token and no transmission to us. The list of chosen events stays on your device.
- “Add to calendar” opens your operating system’s calendar window with a pre-filled event, or a calendar file via the share menu. The app does not read or write your calendar.
- Rating: the app counts on your device how long you have used it, in order to occasionally ask for a rating. This count does not leave the device. If you rate the app, this happens in Apple’s or Google’s window or store.
- Backup/transfer: under Settings → Data you can export your chosen place and your favourite gauges as a file. You decide where the file goes via the share menu.
- Links (for example to authorities, our website or the app stores) open a third-party page; its privacy policy applies there.
10. Data stored on your device
Settings, chosen place, favourite gauges, layout of the home screen, map filters, reminders, read messages, dismissed notices, the rating count and data cached from the server are kept only in the app’s storage. This is strictly necessary for the respective function (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG). You delete everything by uninstalling the app. If you use your phone’s device backup (Android: backup to your Google account, iPhone: iCloud or computer), this app data is included in the backup. That is your own backup; we have no access to it, and you can switch it off in your phone’s settings.
11. Transfer to third countries
Map images are delivered via Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) (section 5); in the process your IP address may be processed in the USA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; to that extent there is an adequacy decision of the EU Commission for the USA (Art. 45 GDPR). Beyond that, we do not transfer any data to third countries. For Apple and Google, see their privacy policies.
12. Storage periods at a glance
Location: not at all. Hosting providers’ log files: deleted automatically as soon as they are no longer needed for security and operation. Hashed IP of the feedback limiter: at most one hour. Feedback emails: until dealt with, at the latest twelve months afterwards. Wall of Fame name: until you withdraw consent. Data on your device: until you delete it or uninstall the app.
13. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3)). A message to post@titus-hildebrand.de or service@skipperfriends.de is enough.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany, www.lda.bayern.de.
14. Your right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
Where we process data on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR), you can object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. You can object to the advertising for our own apps (section 6) at any time without giving reasons; simply dismiss the notices or write to us.
15. Other information
You are under no legal or contractual obligation to provide us with data. Without your location you choose a place manually; without an email address we simply cannot reply to you. No automated decision-making or profiling (Art. 22 GDPR) takes place. We will adapt this policy when the app changes. The same policy is also available in the app.
